The History of Scissor Kids - A Children's Hair Salon
Scissor Kids opened June 15th, 1994!
In June of 1994, Kathleen and her daughter Krista had a dream of opening a children's hair salon focused on kids haircuts, and they made it happen. Above is a photo of a newspaper article from June 30th, 1994, showcasing both of the ladies who created the legacy of Scissor Kids, which continues to thrive today.
Years of hard work and dedication on their behalf have created a wonderful community of clients for years to come.
We have been thankful to have the honor of giving a first haircut to someone who later brings their child in for their first haircut.
Kathleen and Kristas legacy and creation will always be the roots of what the salon continues to be today.
A New Chapter
In 2020, Krista transitioned to a new chapter in her career life, leading to Lisa and her husband Ken taking over the salon. Since then, the legacy of Scissor Kids has continued to thrive, becoming a go-to destination for kids haircuts and remaining a CT icon as it has for decades!
Lisa started working at Scissor Kids shortly after we opened, and she has always had a passion for working with kids and community.
When Krista decided it was time for the salon to move on to a new owner, Lisa decided to take the opportunity, and the legacy carried on!
Today
Since November of 2025, Betsy has taken over as the salon owner. Betsy has been with the salon since the beginning in 1994, and has become a staple of the salon all along. She not only makes a great stylist, but she loves to work with kids and has a lot of experience. She works with kids outside of the salon, and her passion for creating a comfortable environment for children of all ages is why she decided to keep the salons legacy going in her name. We are all looking forward to seeing what special plans are to come and honored to bring the community with us on this next chapter. We aim for Scissor Kids to be more than just a salon, but a sense of community for all who are a part of it!
